December I understand, with the holidays and all, but May... why is it so often the case that May is crazy? Life's been going by so fast that it feels like we've been drinking out of a fire hose.
We kicked off the month with a "knights and princesses" 4th birthday party for Jordan on his actual birthday (May 1st) at Mountain Lake park here in San Francisco. Jordan went as a king, and loved that role.
We had sack races, tug-o-war, 3 legged races, trophies and medals for the winners, the works. Like a tournament day, without the real jousting (though we did have our share of blow-up swords).
It was a double party, with Jordan's friend from school, Brock, who turned 5. Always cool to be paired with an older boy.
Jordan then also did his "birthday walk" at Montessori, where he carries a little earth around the "sun" (a candle in the middle of the floor) and the months of the year. It's a sweet ceremony and teacher Guiliana from Jordan's school (green sweater) is one of the most gentle people on the face of the earth, I'm convinced.
I helped organize a mother's day event for homeless moms from the Hamilton Family Center, a homeless shelter here in San Francisco.
The moms were first treated to getting their hair and makeup done at Posh Salon in Pacific Heights. Below is Posh's owner, Bethany Jackson, whose staff donated their services and the lovely Mrs. Jane von Bothmer, who puts her heart and soul into helping out the Hamilton Family Center. People like Jane make me feel inspired to do more for those less fortunate.
After getting dolled up and picking out some new jewelry, the moms were taken by cable car to Harry Denton's Starlight Room for brunch.

Willie Brown was even on hand to help serve the moms. That's Willie with Harry Denton (in bowtie). I hustled out of the Starlight Room and down the Peninsula, where we celebrated Mother's Day with my own family
Then a week after that we went to Madison for Ryan's cousin David's college graduation:
and while we were in Madison I got to see my aunt and uncle and cousins, complete with their darling kids
and that only takes us through 2 weeks ago, but Ryan's home now and everybody needs to be fed... and then tomorrow morning it's off to Las Vegas sans kids to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. I've been getting polished and prepped all day. Can't wait!
